TO: All Who Completed the Early Response Disaster Training with Larry Powell
And UMVIM Leadership Tea,
From: Ronda Cordill, Annual Conference Volunteers in Mission
Re: Early Response Disaster Training (Advance)
Originally, both Basic Early Response and Advance Early Response Training with UMCOR were scheduled for September 24th and 25th at Salmon Creek, Vancouver. Due to conflicts with travel schedules, Larry Powell is only able to come on Friday, September 25th for the Advanced Training. The Basic Early Response has been postponed until October.
The Advanced Course with Larry Powell remains scheduled for September 25th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It will be a table top exercise using the Howard Hanson Dam flooding as the example. The location is still Salmon Creek UMC in Vancouver.
As many of you from the Westside know the reality of the dam flooding the Green River Valley is a very real possibility this fall and winter, so I am asking that all who have already received the Basic Early Response Training meet on the September 24th from 1:00 p.m. until at least 5:00 p.m. so we can do more training. I would like to have an Early Response Team Meeting to form teams, identify equipment needs, and complete the credentialing process. (See agenda below.) If you are from out of town I will send you a list of hotels close to the church.
For those who would like to be credentialed to serve on an Early Response Team the following must be completed:
• Attend the complete Basic Class led by an Authorized trainer
o I have the list from the two trainings.
• Pass the ERT Basic Class Quiz
o I have the quiz if completed at the training.
• Complete Safe Sanctuaries (Designated Safety Officer – DSO) training.
o I will schedule DSO Training if there are enough to warrant the training.
o Bring your card if you have it.
• Complete a Background Check.
o I will have the forms for you to complete at the training.
• A Digital Picture.
o I have them from the second training and I will get those from the first training. (Be prepared to SMILE!)
AGENDA
THURSDAY:
1:00 to 3:00p.m.-DSO training for those who need it. Others can complete their credentialing paperwork.
3:00 to 5:00 p.m.-Team Leader Training; Personal Protective Equipment and Safety on the Worksite; How to set up a Site.
5:00 to 7:00 p.m.-Dinner
7:00 to 9:00 p.m.-Early Responders Team Meeting:
o Team Roles and Job Descriptions
o Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment we need (ERT Trailer)
o Forming Teams

What if you can’t come on Thursday? We would like to have as many people as possibly can come to any or part of Thursday’s Meeting. There will be information available and credentialing can be completed at a later time. There is a possibility that the information will be repeated again when the next Basic Training is given. Let Ronda know so that she can work with you individually. If there is a special role that you think you would like to do or have special skills to offer to the team let Ronda know that as well.
FRIDAY:
7:30 to 8:00 a.m.-Sign in and Continental Breakfast
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.-UMCOR Advanced Training Table Top Exercise and Evaluation with Larry Powell.
